WATC Interior Design Students Participate in Festival of Trees

This is the second year students from the WATC Interior Design program participated in the Goodwill Industries Annual Festival of Trees fundraiser to help those less fortunate live an independent life. The event was held at Century II where 42 beautifully decorated trees, 7 table toppers, 22 wreathes and 205 silent auction items were displayed. The decorations were open for public viewing for three days while events took place. The events included the Reindeer Romp Children’s Day, where children could get their picture taken with Santa and decorate cookies, Silver Bells Senior Day, and the Party in the Pines and auction.

Interior Design students, Kenna Corley, Monica Yoho, and LaTasha Riegle created a tree using a theme from the children’s board game, Candy Land.  The tree was adorned with handcrafted ornaments of sugarplums, lollypops, and gum drops, and brightly colored squares led from the gingerbread house to the top of the tree where a gingerbread boy and girl stood. Bags of candy and the game Candy Land nestled comfortably underneath the tree.

A bidding war ensued for this tree and the hammer fell at $350.00. Meg Mathewson, the owner of Henry & Mathewson P.A. was the winner of the tree. Meg stated, “Please tell your students that I wanted this tree to go to the children’s home, and that’s where it will be delivered Monday!”

The WATC Interior Design program is grateful to Meg for opening her heart and for her generosity!
