Wednesday, October 23, 2013 Wichita Area Technical College’s Career Services Department held an on-campus career fair.
Aviation and Manufacturing employers came to WATC’s main campus, the National Center for Aviation Training to interview and hire WATC students and graduates.
“Many of the Wichita area’s premier employers are coming out to connect with our students. The employers attending value the technical training students are receiving at WATC and view the Career Fair as an opportunity to recruit and inform students about their organizations. Students will benefit from attending the fair by learning the application processes, benefits, and career ladders at these organizations in addition to current job vacancies,” said Sequana Kimbrel, Specialist, WATC Career and Disability Services.
Employers in attendance included:
- Cox Machine, Inc.
- Exacta Aerospace
- Hampton Aviation
- Hire Principle / LSI Staffing
- JR Custom Metals, Inc.
- Labor MAX Staffing
- Leading Technology Composites, INC.
- LSI Staffing
- Salina Area Chamber of Commerce
- Shuttle Aerospace
- Spirit AeroSystems
- Straightline HDD, Inc.
- The Arnold Group
- Volt Workforce Solutions
- Workforce Alliance
“Students were very engaging and did a great job of asking relevant questions regarding employment opportunities,” said Eric L. Brown, PHR, from the Salina Area Chamber of Commerce.
Lasting from 3:00 – 5:00, the fair brought over 100 hopeful prospects. Students and graduates in attendance had the opportunity to meet with employers, share their skills and abilities and land a job. Those who arrived early had the chance to win prizes through a “bingo” game to encourage attendees to visit each employer. Three prizes were awarded including a WATC Columbia fleece jacket, $25 – $100 gift cards, backpacks and more.
It is the goal of WATC’s Career Services Department to provide students with the coaching, guidance and resources necessary to gain employment. WATC is proud of its 97% placement success rate and strong relationships with local employers.
