Wichita Area Technical College develops new program titled Wichita Promise that will pay tuition and fees and provide a guaranteed job interview to those who train in select high-demand career fields.
WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita Area Technical College (WATC) announces Wichita Promise, a scholarship program that will pay tuition and fees for specific, high-wage, high-demand jobs.
Sheree Utash, President of WATC, expressed her excitement about the new program by saying, “WATC is proud to announce the Wichita Promise. Wichita Promise is a bold, new vision that will provide free tuition to students in a high-tech, high-wage, career pathway, training with certifications and credentials, plus personalized career services and a guaranteed interview with one of our business and industry partners.”
With the introduction of the Wichita Promise program, WATC hopes to increase the number of trained, skilled workers in Wichita to meet industry demand.
Utash also said, “Today, the world is different than it was a century ago. The knowledge and skill necessary to compete and thrive in the job market is higher than ever before. At WATC, we want to ensure that our community has the workforce it needs to be successful and students who work hard have the opportunity to attend WATC and build their future.”
Students accepted in the scholarship program will be provided training in eligible programs with credentials and certifications, personal career coaching by WATC’s career service department and a guaranteed interview upon completion. Individuals interested in participating in the Wichita Promise program must enroll for the 2016 fall semester and be enrolled by July 1, 2016.
The eligible programs include Aerospace Manufacturing Technology, Aerospace Coating and Paint Technology, Composite Technology, Machining Technology, Automotive Service Technology, Industrial Automation and Machine Maintenance, Carpentry, Patient Care Technician and Pre-Health for preferential acceptance into the Veterinary Technician, Nursing and Medical Assistant programs.
