NCAT Open House Draws More Than 600

More than 600 people attended the open house for the National Center for Aviation Training (NCAT) on April 19. NCAT is the newest campus for Wichita Area Technical College and is in its second semester since opening Fall, 2010.

Faculty and staff were on hand from 3:00 pm – 8:00 pm to showcase programs and give hands on demonstrations in the labs at NCAT. Students attending NCAT are in Aviation and Manufacturing programs, but WATC also had representation from their other two campuses, Southside and Grove.  View photos on Facebook.

“We are extremely pleased with the success of the NCAT Open House which is due to the efforts of so many people,” said Vice President of Academic Affairs Sheeree Utash. “We are very pleased with the media coverage we received. Our faculty did a fantastic job. The response from the community far exceeded our expectations,” she went on to say.

Several attendees were chosen to win door prizes including scholarships, cordless screwdriver sets donated by Snap-on, The Birth of the 787 Dreamliner Coffee Table books donated by The Boeing Company, and a Colorado Cabin stay donated by Advertising Images.

“I teach Design and Quality Control, and will also be walking at the graduation ceremony in May to receive my Associates Degree,” said Buck.

Relative Anthony Craig was also on campus, and is completing the Mechanical Engineering Design program.

When Sabrina Wolf got the phone call that she had won a scholarship, she was thrilled. “I just came to the open house after seeing a co-worker pass around a flyer. I had no idea I would win something!” she said.

Sabrina already has a Masters Degree, so she wasn’t interested in a degree program. But she was interested in the EMarketing and Social Media workshops, and said they might benefit her in her job as Product Marketing Manager at FlightSafety Hawker Beechcraft Learning Center.
