WICHITA, Kan. – The Fidelity Bank Foundation will present the Wichita Area Technical College Foundation (WATC Foundation) with a $25,000 grant to support students with scholarships to further their education. The check presentation is Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2016 at 1 p.m. in the Gateway building at WATC’s main campus, the National Center for Aviation Training (NCAT) located at 4004 N. Webb Road. These scholarships will be used to support WATC’s Wichita Promise initiative programs. Members from the Fidelity Bank Foundation, WATC and student recipients will be in attendance.

Wichita Promise was established in April 2016 to increase Wichita’s skilled workforce by providing free tuition to students in a high-tech, high-wage career pathway and a guaranteed interview with one of WATC’s business and industry partners upon completion of their program. Fidelity’s gift will allow a significant increase in the number of available Wichita Promise scholarships.

Sheree Utash, WATC president said, “When James Chung presented his research on Wichita’s economic downturn, we knew we had to do something to help reverse this trend. Together, WATC and the Fidelity Bank Foundation are removing barriers that keep people from getting the training they need, filling Wichita’s funnel of skilled workers and shrinking talent gaps so that we can retain and grow our local industries.”

The eligible programs include Aerospace Manufacturing Technology, Aerospace Coating and Paint Technology, Composite Technology, Machining Technology, Automotive Service Technology, Industrial Automation and Machine Maintenance, Carpentry, Patient Care Technician and Pre-Health for preferential acceptance into the Veterinary Technician, Nursing and Medical Assistant programs.

Aaron Bastain, Fidelity Bank President, said “Wichita Promise is very much aligned with Fidelity’s Bravely Onward promise, both are about taking action to ensure that our city fulfills its great potential. We are proud to help further WATC’s program and encourage other leaders and businesses in Wichita to join us. This is a powerful way to meet our economic challenges head on.”

The WATC Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that supports the mission of Wichita Area Technical College through scholarship and program assistance. The Foundation is administered by a board of seven civic minded leaders from within the Wichita area.
