Newest appointment to Foundation board joins eight others in the acquisition, allocation and management of resources to enable scholarships and other underfunded initiatives at WATC
WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita Area Technical College (WATC) announces the appointment of Brent Beckman as a new board member for the Foundation of the College.
Mr. Beckman has more than two decades of banking experience in the Wichita area including commercial lending, business development and bank operations. Since October 2011, he has led the commercial loan office for Union State Bank as Wichita Market President.
“Brent is a great addition to the Foundation board,” said Randy Roebuck, WATC Foundation Director. “We look forward to his assistance in helping us support the many programs of WATC as we undergo rapid enrollment growth.”
Mr. Beckman joins a nine-member board that supplies funds, property, services and other support to the programs and activities of WATC.
WATC offers a high-tech, high-wage, high-demand career pipeline for students who choose from associate of applied science (AAS) degrees, technical certificates and certificates of completion. Additionally, general education credits in math, history, speech, art and dozens of other subjects can be earned at half the cost of a four-year university and transferred easily to other colleges. WATC offers more than 75 programs of study including aviation, healthcare, advanced manufacturing, business and design.
The College was selected to design the National Association of Manufacturers’ Aviation Certificate System. In October of 2012, the U.S. Department of Labor announced nearly $15 million in grant funding for WATC to lead a national coalition of community colleges in the development of industry-approved standards for aviation manufacturing training.
Additionally, the College partners with business, industry and organizations across Kansas to provide non-credit employer and career services in support of customized training, continuing education and recertification.
WATC’s 2012 fall semester growth (versus the prior year) was the highest in the state of Kansas. As a public college, WATC is supported by the State of Kansas through the Kansas Board of Regents and Sedgwick County. The College is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association.
WATC operates three locations including the world-class National Center for Aviation Training (NCAT) located at 4004 N. Webb Road. Its Southside Education Center campus is at 4501 E. 47th Street South. The Grove campus is at 301 S. Grove.
