Wichita turned out in droves as WATC hosted an Open House April 18, at their main campus, the National Center for Aviation Training (NCAT) at 4004 N. Webb Road. By the end of the day, there had been over 1000 people on campus. The entire facility was open to the public for tours, informational sessions, demonstrations, prize drawings and free food from 3pm-7pm. Nearly 100 volunteers comprised of WATC staff and faculty stood by to greet, direct, explain and enlighten visitors about WATC’s multitude of programs. People were able to see the 25 different state-of-the-art labs at NCAT. The Robotics Lab contains more than a million dollars in new equipment, installed for the fall 2012 kickoff of WATC’s new Robotics program. Not only were visitors able to learn about what is offered at NCAT, they were also able to meet and visit with lead instructors representing WATC’s over 75 different programs from all three campus locations. A favorite location for those touring the facility was the Aviation Hangar filled with aircraft, including a Bombardier Learjet 45 corporate jet and two variations of the Hawker Beechcraft T-6 Military Trainers on display. Prizes consisting of two tickets to Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Hank Williams Jr. and Nickelback, five separate $1000 scholarships, and the newest model of the Apple iPad were awarded were announced Wednesday, April 23. Aviation Maintenance student, Steve Seely was the lucky winner of the iPad. Seely expressed surprise when learning his name was drawn, “I never win anything! “
