SCTE&TA Announces New WATC President

The Sedgwick County Techical Education & Training Authority (SCTE&TA) has announced the appointment of Mr. Tony Kinkel as the Wichita Area Technical College (WATC) President. Mr. Kinkel was the former President of Pikes Peak Community College in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He is expected to begin as WATC President in early January 2011.

Kinkel has more than 24 years of experience in working with community colleges and technical colleges and in the legistlative arena. Previous appointments have included Chancellor of the University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville and the State Director of the Maryland Association of Community Colleges. Kinkel was also elected six times to the Minnesota House of Representatives and twice to the Minnesota Senate. He has been an Adjunct Professor of Political Science at Central Lakes Community and Techncial College and Dean of General Education at Northwest Technical College (both in Minnesota).

“I am honored to accept the offer to be the next President of Wichita Area Technical college,” Kinkel said. “I see so many opportunities to grow with WATC, expecially with the opening of the National Center for Aviation Training. I look forward to working with the Authority and community partners in creating a WATC ‘plan for success’,” Kinkel said.
