Contacts with 820 of the 901 Wichita Area Technical College graduates from the 2008-2009 academic year found a “success rate” (placement in a job, in the military or enrolled in advanced study) of 80.3%, according to a report completed by the college’s Career Services office. The percentage reflects the “success” of all graduates from programs that WATC will continue to offer and combines graduates of multiple programs in the same field of study. Of the 820 graduates contacted 369 are working in their major or field, 351 are continuing their education, and 4 are in military. Another 64 report being employed outside of their field of study, 39 were still seeking employment, and 6 are not seeking employment. The survey is conducted annually by WATC’s Career Services office. An extraordinary effort is made to complete the survey. Career Services uses email, phone, mail surveys and then turns to faculty, administrators, and various other sources to find the employment or study status of graduates.
